Welcome to the October 2003 newsletter of docomomo australia.
2003 ACTIVITIES
We wanted to update you on the activities of docomomo australia during the first three quarters of this year.
Sydney - Meet the Architects
The NSW branch has been active in organising the Meet the Architects series of talks (now in their 3rd year) together with the Historic Houses Trust of NSW. The talks are recorded and indexed as oral histories and it is planned to commence scanning the images shown each month to form a record. This is one of Docomomo's core activities in that the work of practitioners from the 50s, 60s and 70s is being documented.
Speakers thus far this year have included:
January - Peter Tonkin
February - Peter Myers
March - John Fisher
April - Peter Webber
May - Bob Woodward
June - Colin James
July - Louise Cox
August - Terry Dorrough
September - Michael Dysart
The remaining talks in 2003 are:
26 October - Douglas Gordon
30 November - Peter Miller

Sydney - Concrete Conservation Seminar
A one-day seminar on conservation of concrete was held in late May. Co-sponsored by NSW Heritage Council's Technical Advisory Group, NSW Heritage Office, docomomo australia and Sydney Water, this seminar was attended by over 80 heritage professionals and engineers.
Register Fiche
Work on completing the register forms for the first 20 buildings on the Docomomo register is well under way and it is proposed to work closely with the RAIA and the National Trust, etc in extending the register to include more buildings and sites. This work is being coordinated by Noni Boyd, who would love to hear from anybody interested in assisting with this ongoing activity.
Website
This website has continued to operate throughout this year, with updates of events from time to time. Additional input from members is required to assist with further development of the content of this website. Feedback on the future directions of the website will be welcomed by the webmaster, David West.
EVENTS IN PLANNING FOR 2004
Sydney - Meet the Architects
These talks held in conjunction with the HHT will continue through 2004. First speakers have already been arranged, and will be publicised shortly.
Baldwinson Seminar
Also planned for 2004 with the HHT is the Baldwinson seminar which will focus on the work of seminal modernist, Arthur Baldwinson. The planning for this seminar has just commenced and if it is successful it is intended to extend the format to study the work of other architects.
Sydney Open - North Shore
In late 2004 a mini Sydney Open will be held on the upper North Shore of Sydney focusing on houses not normally open to the public. Planning has commenced on this event also.
Austria - Exhibition of Australian Modernist Architecture
An exhibition of Australian architecture to be held in Austria and then to tour Europe is in the initial phases of planning.
